Desert Projekt is a fun and colorful collaboration between Polish artist Julia Curylo and American photographer Craig Deman.

Sharing his time between Santa Monica and Palm Springs, photographer Craig Deman was inspired by the young and talented Polish artist and a playful and naive view of the desert. The two artists waited long days in the desert for the magic hour where the shadows elongate, gold colors appear, and where they were able to find the space to fly free toward moments of pure enchantment, a feeling that only those who’ve been to the desert can truly understand.

This new body of work from Deman started three years ago when he came across a painting by painter Julia Curylo in a Santa Monica newsletter. After looking at her work online, Deman discovered that they both created images of space, his being done with digital photography and hers with paint. Deman and Curylo started a dialog and the narrative for the Desert Projekt took shape, finally culminating in this years exhibition at BBAX, opening on May 4th.

The exhibition will include paintings, photographs, inflatable sculptures and installations.
